NHOU® Fleet Life Extension Program

Protect the Fleet. Protect the Budget.

Towns are spending hundreds of thousands on equipment that corrodes before it should. NHOU helps municipalities and public fleets put a real program around protecting those assets, so equipment lasts longer, budgets stretch further and taxpayers get more value from every dollar.

Funding may be available—and we’ll help you explore it.

Eligible public transportation fleets may qualify for federal funding covering up to 80% of approved preventive-maintenance costs. We can help you build a documented rustproofing program and work through the funding requirements with your administering agency.

The real cost of corrosion

Your Equipment Is Aging Faster Than It Should

Mechanics watch it happen every season. Salt and brine eat through undercarriages, seize hydraulic fittings, corrode wiring harnesses and cause premature failure on trucks, plows and equipment that should have years of service life left.

The result goes beyond surface rust. Failed electrical connections, seized components, corroded hydraulic systems and deteriorating frames are the repair line items that quietly drain maintenance budgets long before equipment reaches end of life.

Most towns know preventive maintenance would help. The challenge is manpower, scheduling, the lack of a documented program, and the plain reality that nobody has formalized a process around it. The case for fixing that starts with a free training session.

What’s one more year worth?

The cost argument your budget committee understands

You know what your equipment costs. Extending a replacement cycle, even by one year, changes the capital budget conversation. You do the math.

Deferred replacements add up fast

Every year of extended service life is a budget win

Preventive corrosion protection costs a fraction of unplanned repairs or early equipment replacement.

Training, products and demonstrations at no cost

The program protects more than the frame. Wiring, hydraulics, electrical connections and moving parts all benefit from annual treatment.

The program

A Real Program, Not Just a Product

Fleet Life Extension isn’t a one-time treatment. It’s an annual program your crew can own and sustain, because protection works best when it’s applied consistently, season after season.

01

Assess the fleet

We start by understanding your equipment, exposure conditions, current maintenance practices and the biggest protection gaps.

02

Prevent corrosion

Apply the right NHOU® products to the right surfaces at the right time, before rust starts. Proper prep and application make the difference.

03

Train the crew

Free on-site training puts your team in control. We demonstrate prep, application techniques and product selection, hands-on, at your facility.

04

Maintain it annually

We help you build an annual treatment schedule: simple enough to put in your budget, consistent enough to make a real difference over time.

My Steward Registry

We’re building a VIN-linked record system for municipal fleets: inspections, treatments, photos and maintenance history tied to each vehicle. The goal is a verifiable, documented record of how taxpayer-owned equipment is cared for. The Fleet Life Extension program is already structured to support it when it’s ready.

Trusted by the Towns That Use It Most

Real people, real towns and real experiences tell the story better than anything we could write. Here’s what fleet managers and public works directors tell us.

We’ve been using NHOU products for close to a decade. At the end of the season, we decontaminate our plow trucks, sanders and other equipment with NHOU Salt Brine Eliminator and then treat them with oil before putting them away. We’ve seen a considerable reduction in corrosion and the maintenance that goes along with it. It has become an important part of how we take care of our equipment.

Bedford has worked with NHOU for many years, and over that time we’ve had the opportunity to try different products and application methods on equipment operating in a real municipal environment. That experience has helped us determine what works best for different applications and build corrosion prevention into the way we maintain our fleet.

Who we serve

Built for Every Fleet That Battles the Road

If your organization runs vehicles exposed to salt, brine or harsh Northeast road conditions, this program was built for you.

DPW Fleets

Plow trucks, dump trucks, salt spreaders, backhoes and loaders facing the harshest corrosive conditions all winter.

Highway Departments

Plow trucks, brine spreaders, graders and maintenance vehicles that state and county road crews depend on every season.

Municipalities

Pickup trucks, utility vans, parks equipment and public works vehicles that need consistent year-round protection.

School Transportation

School buses, activity vans and district vehicles that need to stay road-ready, inspection-ready and budget-friendly.

Police & Public Safety

Patrol cars, SUVs, transport vans and command units running year-round on salt-treated roads.

Commercial Fleets

Box trucks, sprinter vans, service vehicles and heavy delivery equipment running Northeast routes year-round.

Community

Municipal Fleet Exchange

Managing a public fleet is a job most people do in isolation. It doesn’t have to be. We’re building a private community where public fleet professionals can talk openly with peers from other towns and departments about what’s working, what isn’t and what they’ve tried.

Peer-to-peer knowledge

What products have other towns tried? What maintenance routines are working? Real answers from real fleet managers.

Real problems, real talk

Corrosion, wash schedules, staffing shortages, downtime, budget cycles and procurement. If you’re dealing with it, someone else probably is too, so bring it and hear how others handled it.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Funding and program support

Can federal funding help pay for our fleet’s rustproofing?
Certain federal transit programs may cover up to 80% of eligible preventive-maintenance costs. Whether rustproofing qualifies depends on your vehicles, their use, the funding program, and agency approval. Contact us and we’ll help you explore the options.
Will NHOU help us put a program together and navigate the process?
Yes. We’ll help you develop a corrosion-prevention plan, outline the proposed work and costs, and organize supporting documentation. We’ll work alongside your team as you confirm eligibility and work through the application requirements with the funding agency.
Does every town or public fleet qualify?
No. Being municipally owned does not automatically make a vehicle eligible. The funding opportunities described here apply to qualifying public transportation activities. Eligibility and funding must be confirmed by the administering agency.
What if our fleet doesn’t qualify for funding?
We can still help you build a practical protection program around your equipment and budget, whether that means training your crew or connecting you with an applicator.
How do we get started?
Tell us your organization, state, the types of vehicles you operate, and what you’re looking to accomplish. We’ll help identify the next steps for your protection program and any potential funding opportunities. Use the form below or call (603) 491-9012.

On-site training

Is the on-site training truly free?
Yes, 100% free. NHOU covers all session costs, including equipment, products, printed materials and lunch. There’s no charge to your organization and no obligation to buy anything afterward.
How many people can attend a session?
Sessions are flexible, from small crews of 5–6 up to larger groups of 30+. We’ll work out the format with you when we schedule.
What geographic areas do you cover?
NHOU regularly serves organizations across the Northeast, including New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and beyond. Contact us with your location and we’ll confirm availability.
How long does a training session last?
Typically 3–5 hours, including demonstrations, hands-on time, Q&A and a lunch break. We’ll share a detailed itinerary when we confirm your session.
Do we need vehicles ready for the demonstration?
Having a vehicle or piece of equipment available helps but isn’t required. We can demonstrate on your equipment or use our own training materials, and we’ll agree on the plan ahead of time.
Is there any obligation to buy NHOU products afterward?
Absolutely not. Our goal is to teach your team proper corrosion prevention, full stop. No sales requirements, no quotas, no pressure. If you choose NHOU products later, great. If not, we hope the knowledge helps your fleet anyway.
What if we’d rather not apply the product ourselves?
No problem. NHOU has authorized applicators who can service your fleet. We also work with major national automotive suppliers, so products can be delivered through local vendors you already use.
