CAA Recommends Rustproofing
Why You Should Rustproof Your Vehicle
In a June 2013 article, the
Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) laid out its recommendations for rustproofing and the reasons behind it. The CAA, often compared to the American Automobile Association, strongly recommends rustproofing for all vehicles, regardless of age or make.
Some of the intelligent questions we often hear about rustproofing include:
- My vehicle already came with rustproofing. Isn’t that enough?
- Is rustproofing bad for the environment?
- Is rustproofing really worth the expense?
The article, entitled
“Why You Should Rustproof Your Vehicle,” addresses these questions in detail:
1. My vehicle already came with rustproofing. Isn’t that enough?
Factory-applied rustproofing is standard practice for modern car manufacturers. However, the CAA strongly recommends aftermarket rustproofing for all vehicles. Factory treatments are not designed to withstand the severe conditions of harsh climates or extensive road salt exposure.
2. Is rustproofing bad for the environment?
No, it’s not. In fact, rustproofing helps protect the environment. According to the CAA:
In Canada, approximately 1.2 million vehicles are taken off the road every year. Even if every single one is properly recycled (which they aren’t), the result is 300 million pounds of unusable waste in Ontario alone. Rustproofing extends vehicle life and reduces waste in landfills.
3. Is rustproofing really worth the expense?
Absolutely. The CAA explains:
The average Canadian will buy 10-12 vehicles in their lifetime. Keeping vehicles longer can save tens of thousands of dollars. For example, a $20,000 vehicle depreciates by $14,000 in its first five years but only $4,000 in the next five years. Keeping your vehicles longer can lead to significant savings, enough to cover college tuition, retirement plans, or other financial goals.
Reasons to Rustproof
The CAA provides three key reasons to rustproof your vehicle:
- Reduce Waste
- Maintain Your Vehicle’s Safety
- Save Money
How to Rustproof
The CAA recommends Krown in Canada, but here in New Hampshire,
The Rust Stop Pro
offers equivalent services. Unlike Krown, The Rust Stop Pro continuously updates its techniques to counteract the latest corrosive agents and trends.
