Rust eats cars. We all know that. We also know that the salt that makes our roads safer in the winter makes the rust eat them at a much faster rate. What many drivers don’t know is that in a climate like New Hampshire’s, just washing our vehicles is not 2014-08-26 21.48.29enough to protect them. There are two reasons for that. The first reason is that along with salt, many road crews spread bonding agents on the roads.

 

These bonding agents can keep the salt stuck to your car even after you take it through the car wash, because they are intended to keep it stuck to the road even after a rain storm. The second reason washing our vehicles won’t effectively protect them from rust is that our vehicles weren’t intended for this climate. Or, to be more specific, the rustproofing treatments applied in the factory are suitable only for use on paved, salt-free roads. So any vehicle exposed to road salt or gravel roads needs additional steps taken to protect it from rust. NH Oil
